What are Dashcams?

Dashcams are cameras equipped to the front (and sometimes rear) of the vehicle, with the ability to record continuously.  With this capability, it offers drivers a peace of mind as everything will be recorded in the case of any mishaps.  The dashcams feature multiple recording modes, as well as a built-in GPS system that show vehicle speed and location.

All footage is stored via on-board SD memory cards.  For the sake of efficiency, the dashcams are programmed to record in a looping manner, overwriting the oldest footage when it starts a new cycle of recording.  In the case of an accident, or any type of impact, the G-sensors will be triggered, notifying the dashcam to record in a separate “event” video which would not be deleted.

One of the great things about these dashcams is the fact that it can record while parked.  With its dedicated ‘parking mode’, which can be achieved through hardwiring to your vehicle’s battery, videos can be recorded when the motion detector is triggered even if your vehicle is parked or turned off.

Benefits of Installing a Dashcam

  • 1. Provides irrefutable video evidence and acts as a silent witness in the event of an accident
  • 2. Provides protection from hit-and-run and theft
  • 3. Provides GPS tracking with vehicle speed (if equipped and activated)
  • 4. Reduces the time to settle a claim by the court or by the insurance company
  • 5. Has been proven to change driver’s driving behaviour
  • 6. Provides employers with security that employees are following company rules when driving fleet vehicles

Promote Safer Driving

Dashcams are video black boxes that ensure that you are protected in the event of an accident. No matter how careful you drive, if other drivers are not paying attention, you can easily end up in an accident.

You may be put at fault by the insurance company depending on the situation, but with a dashcam installed, the footage ensures that the right party is able to be assigned responsibility.

Say NO to Vandalism and Monitor Your Vehicle When Parked

Leaving your vehicle parked in random areas in the city can be unsettling.  With a hardwiring kit such as the Power Magic Pro, ‘parking mode’ can be used, allowing your dashcam to record when the car is parked or turn off when it detects motion.

Cases such as hit-and-runs, vandalism, and theft tend to happen when a car is unattended.  With a dashcam, you will be able to have evidence in the case of these unfortunate scenarios.

Reduce Insurance Premiums

Ensure that your insurance payments do not increase! When equipped with a dashcam, details including: speed, GPS location (when equipped appropriately) are captured.

If presented with the evidence, insurance companies will be able to properly investigate the cause and fault of the accident, thereby potentially reducing or eliminating your liability in the event of an accident.
